History

In 1964, based on Minister of Health Decree No. 21215/Kab/1964, on April 12, 1964, the hospital became a Central General Hospital (RSUP) with Dr. Oei Khoen Lian as its head. Field research was also conducted with funding from the Institute for the Study of Eye Diseases (LPPM).

In 1965, Dr. Oei Khoen Lian became a professor, and Dr. Widagdo, an ophthalmologist, joined the Department of Education and Culture as Head of LPPM. Dr. Wilardjo became an Ophthalmology teacher at the Kariadi Hospital Nursing School in Semarang. With the increase in medical personnel, operations began.

In 1968, Bendungan Eye Hospital opened, led by Dr. Widagdo, an ophthalmologist, with rudimentary equipment.

In 1975, Dr. Siti R. Tjahjono joined the ophthalmology department, along with Dr. Pramanawati (1976) and Dr. Norma D. Handojo (1978).

1970-1980: Efforts and activities aimed at broadening horizons and improving public services were undertaken. Dr. Widagdo delivered his inaugural speech as Professor of Ophthalmology at the Faculty of Medicine, Diponegoro University (UNDIP), and Dr. Tjahjo Nugroho attended the APAD Congress in Hong Kong.

1980-2000: The ophthalmology department of Dr. Kariadi Hospital, previously located at Bendungan Eye Hospital, moved to the Dr. Kariadi Hospital complex in 1983. Numerous advances were made, and sophisticated equipment began to be used to provide the best possible service to the public.
